Ruth Niemiec (she/her) is a writer of non-fiction, fiction and poetry in English and Polish.
 

Some of her work has appeared in publications such as Dumbo Feather (aus), Mamamia (aus), ABC Everyday (aus) Neon Literary Magazine (uk), Coffee People (us), Parliament (us), Rhodora (in) and others.

Ruth was the first-place recipient of
Brimbank Writers and Readers Festival Microfiction Award for her piece Dumplings in 2022 and was nominated for the Rachel Funari Prize for Fiction in the same year for her piece Just Us.

 

Ruth reads or has read creative non-fiction for literary publications, Catatonic Daughters, Kitchen Table Quarterly and is Social Media Manager for the Berlin-based arts magazine, creatures. She received her BA with a major in Professional Writing from Victoria University and won a scholarship in high school which she didn't care about until much later. 

Growing up her time was divided between Daylesford; spa-town which lies in the foothills of Victoria's Great Dividing Range and Laverton, located in Victoria's Western Suburbs, bordering a blue-collar industrial precinct. Her written work draws upon the contrasting elements of both.
